Data Centre Network Operations Engineer – LAN Infrastructure

Duration: 12-Month Contract

We are supporting a leading international organisation in the search for a Data Centre Network Operations Engineer to support LAN infrastructure operations across multiple European locations. This role combines hands-on data centre networking, incident and change management, and operational process improvement. You will work alongside internal technical teams and external service providers to maintain network reliability, support infrastructure changes and improve operational performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide operational support across data centre LAN environments, including network switches, VLANs and connectivity.

Troubleshoot networking issues and perform switch configuration changes.

Manage network incidents, service requests and change tasks through ServiceNow.

Support VMware ESX/vSphere environments, including VLAN port groups and Virtual Distributed Switches (VDS).

Review network changes, assess risks, validate implementation and rollback plans, and participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings.

Coordinate with external suppliers and internal engineering teams to resolve technical and operational issues.

Monitor network service performance, incidents and KPIs, identifying opportunities for improvement.

Maintain technical documentation and support ITIL-aligned operational processes.

Key Experience:

Strong experience in Data Centre LAN / Network Operations or Network Engineering.

Hands-on experience with switching, VLAN configuration, troubleshooting and network connectivity.

Experience managing incidents, changes and service requests using ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms.

Knowledge of ITIL processes, particularly Incident, Change and Problem Management.

Exposure to VMware ESXi, vSphere, Virtual Distributed Switches or virtual networking.

Experience working with third-party managed service providers.

Strong communication, stakeholder coordination and documentation skills.

Experience with Jira, Confluence, NetBox, IP Fabric or network monitoring tools would be advantageous.
