Space Avionics Architect | Freelance Contract | Friedrichshafen

We are looking for an experienced Space Avionics Architect to join a leading aerospace engineering environment in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

Contract: 6 months initially, with potential for extension

The Role
You will lead avionics architecture activities across complex spacecraft systems, including system decomposition, interface strategies, networking, payloads, boot/recovery concepts and FDIR. You will define and maintain the technical baseline, develop architecture concepts and design justifications, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams. The role also involves supporting engineering analyses covering areas such as radiation tolerance, EMI/EMC, signal integrity and power distribution.

Must-Have
•8–10+ years of relevant experience in spacecraft avionics, aerospace electronics or complex embedded systems
•Proven architecture-level experience within the space/aerospace domain
•Strong knowledge of ECCS-E-ST-70 — non-negotiable
•Strong spoken and written English
•Ability to work independently within multidisciplinary engineering teams

Nice to Have
•German language skills
•Experience with OBCs
•FPGA/SoC experience
•High-speed digital interfaces and distributed systems
•ATOP/MOIS, EGS-CC/EAPL or ECCS PUS experience
