Project Engineer – HV/EHV SubstationsLocationScotlandContract – 6 months initially, with potential extensionThe RoleWe are looking for an experienced Project Engineer to support the delivery of a major HV/EHV substation project in Scotland.The role will work closely with the Project Manager, design teams, site teams, commissioning engineers, vendors and subcontractors throughout the engineering, construction and commissioning phases of the project.The successful candidate will have strong experience working on HV/EHV substations at 275kV–400kV, ideally within SP Energy Networks, National Grid or another UK transmission environment.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide technical engineering support across the delivery of HV/EHV substation works.Review substation engineering designs, drawings, specifications and technical documentation.Support the integration of primary plant, secondary systems, protection and control equipment.Coordinate technical interfaces between design, civil, electrical, construction and commissioning teams.Review vendor documentation and ensure equipment complies with project and client specifications.Support the resolution of technical queries, RFIs and design issues during construction.Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant UK transmission standards and project requirements.Support site teams during installation, testing, commissioning and energisation.Participate in design reviews, technical meetings and progress meetings with the client and wider project team.Support the preparation and review of technical documentation, test records and handover packages.Ensure works are delivered in accordance with HSE, quality and engineering requirements.Essential ExperienceStrong experience delivering HV/EHV substation projects.Previous experience working at 275kV and/or 400kV.Good understanding of primary substation equipment including:Power transformers,Circuit breakers, Disconnectors, CTs and VTs, Busbar systemsUnderstanding of protection, control and secondary systems.Experience supporting substation construction, testing and commissioning activities.Knowledge of UK transmission standards, ideally SP Energy Networks and/or National Grid.Experience working within an EPC contractor, transmission utility or major substation contractor environment.Strong ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary engineering and site teams.Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.Desirable ExperiencePrevious experience working on SP Energy Networks transmission projects.Experience with both AIS and GIS substations.Experience delivering brownfield substation upgrades and live-site works.Knowledge of outage planning, switching and energisation activities.Experience working with international EPC contractors and UK utility clients.Previous involvement in major transmission upgrades at 275kV–400kV.Ideal BackgroundThis role would suit a Project Engineer, Electrical Project Engineer, Substation Project Engineer or Senior Electrical Engineer who has supported the delivery of major transmission substation projects and is comfortable operating between the engineering, construction and commissioning teams.
