Job Title – Control Systems Engineer
Type: Freelance/Contract (Yellow Badge)
Location: Spain (Valencia preferred) – Remote/Hybrid
Duration: 8 months initial
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, standard working hours (~170 days)
Travel: 10–15% (reimbursed as per policy)

Linnk Group is seeking a senior Control Systems Engineer to support the development, deployment, and standardisation of PLC-based automation solutions across global material handling operations. This role sits within a central engineering function and will play a key part in shaping scalable automation standards across international logistics sites.

The position involves hands-on PLC programming, industrial network design, and system integration, working closely with cross-functional teams across multiple regions to deliver high-quality automation solutions from concept through to commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and commission PLC software using CoDeSys (IEC 61131-3), including Structured Text and Function Block Diagrams
• Design and implement industrial communication architectures using EtherNet/IP and CIP protocols
• Configure and commission device-level communication (EDS files, assembly objects, network integration)
• Design industrial network architectures, including VLAN segmentation, managed switches, and IT/OT separation
• Produce and maintain controls specifications, interface documents, and technical requirements
• Review vendor deliverables to ensure compliance with global engineering standards
• Support system integration, commissioning, and validation at deployment sites
• Develop reusable PLC libraries and standardised automation modules
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system issues across live environments
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and stakeholders across regions
• Manage technical workstreams, timelines, and deliverables within automation projects
• Maintain safety-related controls documentation and support functional safety integration
• Drive continuous improvement through post-commissioning reviews and performance analysis

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field
• 5+ years of experience in control systems engineering within industrial automation, logistics, or manufacturing
• Strong hands-on experience with CoDeSys PLC programming (Structured Text, Function Block Diagrams, Ladder Logic)
• Working knowledge of EtherNet/IP and CIP protocols, including device configuration
• Experience designing industrial network architectures
• Ability to read and develop electrical schematics and control panel designs
• Experience writing technical specifications and controls documentation
• Proven experience in commissioning and troubleshooting automation systems
• Strong project management and stakeholder coordination skills
• Fluent in English (written and verbal)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Siemens TIA Portal or Rockwell Studio 5000
• Experience with industrial vision systems integration (cameras, scanners, machine vision)
• Knowledge of CIP Safety or PROFIsafe
• Understanding of IEC 62443 cybersecurity standards
• Experience with HMI/SCADA systems
• Background in logistics, parcel sortation, or MHE automation
• Experience with IO-Link integration
• Experience developing reusable PLC libraries or standardised modules
• Vendor management and controls compliance experience
• Familiarity with AWS IoT, edge computing, or OT/IT integration
• Additional European language skills (Spanish preferred)
