Software Development Engineer – Edge Platform

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer to join a large-scale Edge Platform engineering team, supporting the development and operation of mission-critical platform services.
The team develops capabilities that enable applications and engineering teams to safely manage client configurations, including configuration management, push notifications, observability, intelligent traffic routing and automated failover.
The role will also contribute to a remote MCP platform, enabling engineering teams to rapidly deploy and operate native AI solutions and remote MCP tools.
This is a senior-level engineering position requiring someone who can independently own medium-complexity features, develop high-quality production code and contribute to the operational excellence of large-scale distributed systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Software & Platform Development
– Design, build and extend features for a remote MCP platform.
– Develop and maintain highly available backend and distributed services.
– Build solutions using Java, Kotlin and TypeScript.
– Work with cloud technologies including EC2, NLB, ElastiCache, Lambda and DynamoDB.
– Develop and maintain infrastructure using AWS CDK.
– Write high-quality, maintainable and well-tested production code.
– Use AI and coding agents effectively to improve engineering productivity while maintaining code quality and reliability.

Distributed Systems & Networking
– Support services operating across large-scale distributed environments.
– Work with networking technologies and concepts including DNS, HTTP/TLS and load balancing.
– Contribute to intelligent client traffic routing and automated failover capabilities.
– Support high-throughput, low-latency platform services.
– Troubleshoot application, infrastructure and networking issues.

Operational Excellence
– Maintain high standards around availability, security and operational efficiency.
– Participate in on-call rotations and incident response.
– Develop and improve dashboards, alarms and runbooks.
– Support monitoring and observability across production services.
– Identify operational issues and implement improvements to reduce ongoing engineering burden.

Engineering Delivery
– Independently own and deliver medium-complexity features with minimal guidance.
– Participate actively in code reviews, testing and refactoring.
– Work effectively within ambiguous technical environments and proactively resolve blockers.
– Communicate progress, technical trade-offs and issues clearly with wider engineering teams.
– Support CI/CD and deployment automation.

Basic Qualifications
– Professional software development engineering experience.
– Strong proficiency with Java, Kotlin and TypeScript.
– Experience designing and developing distributed systems or backend services.
– Hands-on experience with cloud technologies such as:
– EC2
– NLB
– ElastiCache
– Lambda
– DynamoDB
– Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly AWS CDK.
– Strong understanding of DNS, HTTP/TLS and load balancing.
– Experience operating production software, including monitoring, alarming and incident response.
– Strong Linux/UNIX skills, including command-line tools and shell scripting.

Preferred Qualifications
– Experience developing high-throughput, low-latency systems at scale.
– Advanced coding knowledge including concurrency, profiling and performance optimisation.
– Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
– Understanding of network-edge security, including DDoS protection, authentication protocols and TLS termination.
– Strong software engineering practices including unit testing, code reviews, refactoring and continuous deployment.
– Experience using Generative AI and coding agents within software engineering workflows.
